Lonely No More

Lonely No More: Episode 4: “The Shape of Things”

Season 1 Episode 4

As Nikesh returns from Tokyo, unsettling discoveries await on all fronts. Nina is grappling with secrets from her harrowing work in A&E, while cryptic structures appear near the motorway crash site, drawing crowds and whispers of a global transformation. Haroun introduces Nikesh to Xavi Anderson, whose unsettling theories about Lonely No More and its connection to ancient symbols seem too bizarre to dismiss entirely.

Meanwhile, Nina finds herself pulled into an alarming new mystery involving Professor Urqhart and a rogue genetic sequence tied to the growing chaos. As revelations mount, the stakes escalate with a chilling twist—seven astronauts aboard the space station make an unfathomable decision, leaving humanity to wonder if the transformation is far greater than anyone imagined.

EPISODE 4

SCENE 1              INT. NINA AND NIKESH’S FLAT

SFX                      NINA AND LIV ARE IN THE FLAT. NINA IS CHOPPING SOME ONIONS FOR A CHILLI

1. NINA                 Going on? What do you mean going on?

2. LIV                    How many messages did I leave you, Nina? Hundreds.

3. NINA                 Not hundreds.

4. LIV                    Hundreds and hundreds

5. NINA                 Everything’s been a bit hairy with work demands these last couple of days.

6. LIV                    Hairy? What does hairy mean?

7. NINA                 Hairy means hairy, Liv.

8. LIV                    And that’s why you’ve been ignoring your calls?

9. NINA                 Ow, my eyes.

10. LIV                  Want some kitchen towel?

11. NINA               Thanks.

SFX                      LIV PASSES A SHEET AND NINA DABS HER EYES

12. LIV                  Those onions, eh?

13. NINA               Pretty potent.

                            NINA FIGHTS BACK SUDDEN TEARS

14. LIV                  Nina?

15. NINA               Ignore me. It’s nothing.

16. LIV                  Doesn’t look like nothing.

17.  NINA              I’m all good. All good.

18. LIV                  You sure?

19. NINA               Positive. The last few days have been. Sorry.

                            NINA SHAKES IT OUT

20. LIV                  So - these work demands?

21. NINA               Huh?

22. LIV                  Were what?

23. NINA               Were confidential, Liv. Top secret.

24. LIV                  What’s top secret in A and E? Was this to do with the motorway thing?

25. NINA               If it’s all the same to you, I’d sooner not ( - talk about it)

SFX                      SUDDEN FLASHBACK TO THE LAB/AUTOPSY (HAZEL HILL)

26. URQHART       … if you can raise the scapula, there.  Look at that.

27. NINA               Good god.

28. URQHART       The same in all three.

29. LIV                  Oh, Nina I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. This Lucette stuff is just so, so.

30. NINA               Plus there’s all this business with Niko getting delayed in Tokyo.

31. LIV                  From whence he should be returning right about now.

SCENE 2              INT. HEATHROW AIRPORT

SFX                      AIRPORT ANNOS ETC. NIKESH WEARILY DRAGS HIS SUITCASE BEHIND HIM. TAYLOR APPROACHES

32. TAYLOR          Nikesh?

33. NIKESH           Tinker Taylor. Here to take me in for questioning?

34. TAYLOR          Here to welcome you home.

35. NIKESH           That’s appreciated. Least you’re not breaking into my apartment to half finish your sushi.

36. TAYLOR          How was your flight?

37. NIKESH           Long. Very long

38. TAYLOR          Didn’t talk to any strangers then?

39. NIKESH           No, and thanks for delivering Nina back from wherever it was you took her. Much appreciated.

40. TAYLOR          And we’re grateful for your discretion. Strange the way that Japanese flight crew just disappeared, isn’t it? Lonely No More.

41. NIKESH           What?

42. TAYLOR          Good to have you home, Nikesh. Bought you a coffee?

SFX                      TAYLOR HANDS NIKESH A COFFEE

43. NIKESH           Thanks.

44. TAYLOR          Be sure and get some shut eye won’t you? Big week coming up. The wedding. You’ll both need your beauty sleep.

SFX                      TAYLOR WALKS OFF. NIKESH DROPS THE COFFEE IN A WASTE BAG WITH A FLIP LID

45. NIKESH           Big week coming up.

SCENE 3              INT. NINA’S FLAT

46. LIV                  Thing I really don’t get, Nina is why you gave your phone to Nikesh?

47. NINA               He had it for safekeeping.

48. LIV                  You couldn’t take your phone to work?

49. NINA               I would have if I could have.

50. LIV                  Then someone stopped you?

51. NINA               Enough Liv, please.

52. LIV                  I’d better be going.

                            BEAT

                            Threes. It’s always threes.

53. NINA               What?

54. LIV                  Is that not how the crap customarily arrives? First it’s Lucette, then you go ahead and join her in completely disappearing off the face of the earth, and now, Mao Tse Fucker Lane King arbitrarily decides to alter the parameters of the Lonely No More campaign.

55. NINA               You know you’re welcome to stay for food.

56. LIV                  But this is your welcome home meal.

57. NINA               And you’re welcome to share it.

58. LIV                  Odd thing is I have this feeling – this deep down good feeling - that Lucette’s OK. That nothing bad has happened. Course I know I shouldn’t have told the Po-Po that cos they lost all interest soon as I said it, but I do.

59. NINA               That’s good, isn’t it?

60. LIV                  Remember when she did this before, at New Year? Remember how she rang the next evening? Said she was fine and that I wasn’t to worry.

61. NINA               I do.

62. LIV                  But this time, this time it’s four days and nothing. Absolutely nothing. Not to me. Not her mum and dad. And her phone.  So I don’t know. I just don’t know what to do aside from letting it drive me out of my tiny little. You don’t have any wine do you?

63. NINA               Uh, yeh

64. LIV                  Great.  I’ll get the glasses.

65. NINA               Just the one for you.

66. LIV                  Huh?

67. NINA               Yeh.  I’m pregnant.

68. LIV                  Excuse me?

69. NINA               I’m pregnant.

70. LIV                  You’re? Did you tell Lucette?

71. NINA               A week ago.

72. LIV                  Well, now that explains it. That explains everything doesn’t it?

73. NINA               And you’re the second person to know.

74. LIV                  And Niko?

75. NINA               It’s going to be my wedding gift to him.  And it’s a lot, isn’t it?

76. LIV                  So, Niko has no idea you’re?

77. NINA               Nope. And I‘d like to keep it that way.

78. LIV                  Sure?

79. NINA               I’m sure.

80. LIV                  OK.

81. NINA               Promise.

82. LIV                  Promise. (TINY BEAT) You think his plane’s touched down yet?

83. NINA               Haroun’s gone to meet him.

84. LIV                  Right. Right. (TINY BEAT) You’re actually pregnant?

SCENE 4              EXT. THE AIRPORT

SFX                      AIRPORT ANNO IN THE BACKGROUND AS NIKESH WHEELS HIS SUITCASE OUT OF THE AIRPORT DOORS AND ONTO THE FORECOURT, HAROUN WHISTLES

85. HAROUN         Hey Niko.

86. NIKESH           Haroun.

87. HAROUN         Welcome home. Missed me?

88. NIKESH           Good to see you.

                            THEY EMBRACE

89. NIKESH           You Ok?

90. HAROUN         I’m one hundred percent, Niko. Just like dad.

91. NIKESH           You spoke to dad? He’s not in London already?

92. HAROUN         Flying in from Mumbai next week. Says he can’t wait to see us all at the wedding. Which is insane right? Seeing how not ten days ago he’s knock knock knocking at heaven’s door.

93. NIKESH           You think we could just get to the car, Haroun?

94. HAROUN         It’s the shop van.

95. NIKESH           Either way is fine by me.

96. HAROUN         What I’m here for my brother.

SCENE 5              INT. THE FLAT

SFX                      NINA OPENS A BOTTLE OF WINE

97. NINA               I’ll risk a little glass.

98. LIV                  You know you might have told me you’d told her sooner, Nina.

                            NINA SNIFFS THE BOTTLE

99. NINA               Hope this red’s all right. Should be all right.

SFX                      NINA POURS TWO GLASSES

100. LIV                Can’t say I’m that surprised though. No keeping secrets. Not from Lucette.

101. NINA             Soon as she had a smell of it there was no keeping it hidden. Here you go.

SFX                      NINA GIVES A GLASS TO LIV WHO TAKES I T

102. LIV                Congratulations to you both. Really.

103. NINA             Our secret though.

104. LIV                Our secret absolutely. Cheers

105. NINA             Cheers.

SFX                      THEY CLINK GLASSES

106. NINA             I do feel guilty.

107. LIV                Guilty?

108. NINA             After everything, What you both went through.

109. LIV                Some things just aren’t meant to be are they? No matter how many times you. And if I’m completely honest I was kind of OK with us not getting. Is it wrong to think that? I think it’s wrong.

110. NINA              Liv.

111. LIV                 I mean I’m not saying I didn’t want kids. I’m not saying that. And I know Lucette wanted us to be parents, so, so badly, but, but when you look at it. When you really look out at this totally fucked up world. Well, it makes you wonder what sort of an actual world this is for a child to grow up in doesn’t it?

112. NINA              I guess. I don’t know.

TINY BEAT

113. LIV                 Oh, Nina, I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have said any of. I’m just. I’m just so.

TINY BEAT

114. NINA              Come here.

                            THEY EMBRACE

115. LIV                 Only wish you’d mentioned it to me a little sooner than you did. It mightn’t have been such a shock to poor Lucette.  You know how she is, how sensitive she can be.

116. NINA              You know it really won’t be any kind of a problem if you feel you can’t make the rehearsal or even the.

117. LIV                 You think I’m going to miss your wedding rehearsal? I’m the chuffing maid of honour, Nina.

118. NINA              Yes you chuffing are.

119. LIV                 And someone’s got to look out for your mum.

120. NINA             Especially when it comes to keeping her away from Niko’s dad.

121. LIV                Syed’s coming?

122. NINA             So it would seem.

123. LIV                You’re kidding.

124. NINA             If only I were.

125. LIV                But I thought he had some sort of terminal heart disease.

126. NINA             And until last week so did I.

127. LIV                So what happened last week?

128. NINA             Syed got better.

SCENE 6              INT. THE CAR

                            HAROUN IS DRIVING AND SMOKING

129. HAROUN       You my man have had quite the adventure.

130. NIKESH         That’s one word for it. Do you have to smoke that in the car?

131. HAROUN       Window’s down.

132. NIKESH         Still stinks doesn’t it?

133. HAROUN       My car. My rules, bro.

134. NIKESH         Then let me out.

135. HAROUN       Don’t be an idiot.

136. NIKESH         Throw it out the window or stop the car, Haroun. Your choice. I’m serious.

137. HAROUN       For goodness’ sake. There. Gone.

SFX                      HAROUN CHUCKS THE CIGARETTE OUT OF THE WINDOW

138. HAROUN       Happy?

139. NIKESH         Bet you don’t smoke when you’re driving your pets about.

140. HAROUN       Our animals usually stay in the shop.

141. NIKESH         So what’s the van for?

142. HAROUN       Deliveries.

143. NIKESH         Of pets?

144. HAROUN       When necessary? So what’s he like?

145. NIKESH         What’s who like?

146. HAROUN       Tucker Lane King?

147. NIKESH         Loves his pets.  Poor taste in clothes.

148. HAROUN       Billionaires, eh?

149. NIKESH         Can you please watch the road please?

150. HAROUN       S’pose its inevitable when you get to that level of wealth.

151. NIKESH         He’s a garden variety megalomaniac.

152. HAROUN       A garden variety megalomaniac. Listen to you.

153. NIKESH         I’d really like to get home in one piece.

154. HAROUN       Sure, sure. Crazy though.

155. NIKESH         What is?

156. HAROUN       The plane driving into the sea?

157. NIKESH         It was pretty wild.

158. HAROUN       And you there to witness it.

159. NIKESH         Me and two hundred other people.

160. HAROUN       But it’s like a habit with you, isn’t it? London, Tokyo.

161. NIKESH         Haroun.

162. HAROUN       Then you don’t think the two things are connected? The people jumping and the flight crew disappearing.

163. NIKESH         Not getting into it, Haroun.

165. HAROUN       You may not be able to see what’s going on my brother, but I do.

165. NIKESH         Because there’s nothing going on.

166. HAROUN       So, as usual you want to shut me up.

167. NIKESH         I didn’t say that.

168. HAROUN       You didn’t need to.

TINY BEAT

169. HAROUN       And to think it was right here on this very motorway that it happened. The jumpers.

170. NIKESH         Please stop calling them that. They were people.

171. HAROUN       Yeh, they were people who jumped from the flyover all the way up there slap bang into moving traffic down here. And now you’re telling me that you don’t see any kind of connection between that and a Japanese flight crew allowing a jet to crash off its runway into the sea. You’re not going to admit at least the possibility?

172. NIKESH         No, because for the gazillionth time I don’t subscribe to this bullshit end of the world conspiracy theory that you and that false prophet of yours propound. I do not.

173. HAROUN       Please don’t talk about Mr. Anderson disrespectfully.

174. NIKESH         Then what was all that crazy men of the Nephilim stuff he was coming out with on the radio last week?

175. HAROUN       OK Mr. Huge Hairy Sceptic-les - Lonely No More. How do you account for Lonely No More being all over everywhere?

176. NIKESH         Again, I’m not getting into this.

177. HAROUN       You don’t think – you don’t think for just a second - that that phrase mysteriously appearing on every website and street corner of the world at the same time as all this weird stuff happening is not a little bit more than a coincidence?

178. NIKESH         Did you not hear what I said. I’m not getting into it.

179. HAROUN       Chicken?

180. NIKESH         Fuck’s sake Haroun.

181. HAROUN       Right – here we are.

SFX                      HAROUN PULLS OVER

182. NIKESH         What do you mean here we are. Why are we pulling over?

SCENE 7              INT. THE FLAT

SFX                      THE TOILET FLUSHES. LIV HELPS NINA GET TO HER FEET

183. NINA             I’m so sorry, Liv. I really am.

184. LIV                But you barely had a sip of wine.

                            LIV GETS OUT HER PHONE

185. NINA             What are you doing, Liv?

186. LIV                Calling Nikesh.

187. NINA             No, Liv. Please. I’ll be fine. Five minute lie down and I’ll be fine.

188. LIV                Then at least let me call a doctor.

189. NINA             I am a doctor. And I know I’ll be A-Ok in five. It’s nothing.

SFX                      NINA’S PHONE GOES OFF (TEXT PING)

190. LIV                Is that you or me?

191. NINA             It’s me.

192. LIV                Tell me it’s Niko?

193. NINA             (LYING) Ah, yeh. Yes it is. (LOOKING AT PHONE) Right. I may need to go out for a little while.

194. LIV                Thought you were taking a rest?

195. NINA             It’s annoying but, but I just remembered I have to pick up something from our Parcel locker.

196. LIV                Can I go?

197. NINA             Quicker if I do it.

198. LIV                Nina?

199. NINA             Yes, Liv.

200. LIV                Not Clifton is it?

201. NINA             Clifton?

202. LIV                Your idiot ex.

203. NINA             I know who Clifton is.

204. LIV                Nikesh said something about him sending you loads of texts.

205. NINA             Bloody Clifton.

SFX                      NINA GOES AND GETS HER COAT

206. LIV                Was it work?

207. NINA             Just forgot to pick up a parcel.

208. LIV                Only that’s totally not true is it?

209. NINA             I’ll be an hour tops, Liv.

210. LIV                Was it Lucette? You’d tell me if it was Lucette?

211. NINA              Oh No, Liv. No, it wasn’t Lucette. It’s just work.

212. LIV                So, you are going into work?

213. NINA             I’ll be back in no time. No time at all. You’ll wait here for Niko won’t you?

214. LIV                Wherever he do be.

SCENE 8              EXT. THE ROUNDABOUT

SFX                      NIKESH AND HAROUN ARE WALKING ALONGSIDE THE MOTORWAY

215. HAROUN       Just a little bit further.

216. NIKESH         Further where, Haroun? Swear to God I’m this close to just walking up the road and getting a train.

217. HAROUN       In front of you. On the roundabout. See?

218. NIKESH         Did you put that there?

219. HAROUN       Me? No.

220. NIKESH         Then who did?

221. HAROUN       I don’t know.  But a structure like that. It’s hard to miss.

222. NIKESH         And the shape?

223. HAROUN       What about the shape?

224. NIKESH         Where did you get it from?

225. HAROUN       I’m telling you bro, it’s nothing to do with me.

226. NIKESH         And you’d swear to that?

227. HAROUN       Sure.

AS THEY ARRIVE AT THE STRUCTURE, THE SOUND OF THE CROWD HUMMING BECOMES CLEARER ABOVE THE TRAFFIC

228. NIKESH         And these people? What are all these people doing here?

229. HAROUN       A beautiful structure like this deserves all the attention and respect it can get. Especially as it’s constructed not twenty metres from where the jumpers jumped.

230. NIKESH         So it’s what? A sort of shrine?

231. HAROUN       The flowers and photos are all further down where the actual fatalities occurred. No, my brother, this is something else. This is a sign. No more. No less.

232. NIKESH         And what are they all humming for?

233. XAVI              Out of respect.

234. NIKESH         Out of…?  Respect for what?

235. XAVI              You either feel it or you don’t.  And clearly… you don’t.

236. NIKESH         And who was it wrote Lonely No More on the side of it? One of these humming pals of yours.

237. HAROUN       (CALLS) Mr. Anderson.

238. XAVI              (APPR) There you are, Haroun. Here at last. Good to see you again, Nikesh.

239. NIKESH         Here at last?

240. XAVI              Not as if we’re being pitted against each other live on national radio is it?

241. NIKESH         Did you set this up, Haroun?

242. HAROUN       All we ask is you hear us out.

243. NIKESH         All we ask?

SCENE 9              INT. THE FLAT

LIV IS ON THE PHONE TO FREDDY

244. FREDDY        (OTHER END OF PHONE THROUGHOUT SCENE) But you’re there, Liv? You’re there at Nikesh’s place right now?

245. LIV                I am Freddy, yes.

246. FREDDY        And Nikesh isn’t back yet?

247. LIV                Maybe there was some sort of a delay at Heathrow?

248. FREDDY        Well, I spoke at length to Jimmy Osmond -

249. LIV                And I hope he apologised for the complete fuck-agami he proceeded to make of all our agreed schedules?

250. FREDDY        No.  But I apologised, again, for switching personnel at such short notice.

251. LIV                Right.

252. FREDDY        He said Tucker has tweaks he wants made to the campaign.

253. LIV                Tweaks.

254. FREDDY        GGC really can’t afford to fuck up this account. And according to Little Jimmy, Nikesh not only argued with Tucker but with Zane Benedetto. Zane three Oscars Benedetto.

255. LIV                Who was suddenly sprung upon us along with moving the shoot to Tokyo.

256. FREDDY        Which is all good as I’m sure you agree? Especially as it’s us he wants to work with us on beefing up the campaign.

257. LIV                Genuinely think we should hold back on any decision making regarding the campaign until we get a proper chance to fully ascertain precisely what went down over there.

258. FREDDY        With you in an hour.

SCENE 10             EXT. REGENTS PARK

SFX                      DISTANT MUSIC FROM A SHOW. URQUHART SITS ON A BENCH. HE SEES NINA AND WAVES

259. URQHART     Nina!

260. NINA             (APPR.) Hi. Hi, Professor.

261. URQHART     Apologies if I alarmed. Truly.

262. NINA             Not sure I covered my tracks very well.

263. URQHART     And I’m not sure inviting you to meet me in Regents Park was a particularly subtle move on my part.

237. NINA             Well, here I am.

238. URQHART     Here you are.

SCENE 11             EXT. THE ROUNDABOUT

SFX                      A LOW HUMMING FROM THE GATHERED PEOPLE AROUND THE STRUCTURE

239. NIKESH         Don’t tell me to calm down, Haroun, because I am. I am calm.

240. HAROUN       Ya don’t seem it. He doesn’t seem it does he, Mr Anderson?

241. XAVI              I see how strange this all might seem to you. I do.

242. NIKESH         Oh, you do, do you?

243. XAVI              And all any of us want is to understand the truth of what’s actually going on in the world right now.

244. NIKESH         The truth. There is no truth.

245. XAVI              Perhaps none that’s apparent to you.

246. NIKESH         (BEAT) I’m sorry Haroun but I consider this gentleman a reckless fraud.

247. HAROUN       Because Xavi sees the world differently to you?

248. NIKESH         Because he’s a scaremonger.

                            XAVI LAUGHS

249. HAROUN       Please, don’t talk to Mr Anderson like that.

250. XAVI              Best we allow your brother to express his truth in any which way he sees fit.

251. NIKESH         And, and just because he dresses up all his dark conspiracy bullshit with a bunch of pretty bows and ribbons doesn’t stop it being bullshit.

252. HAROUN       Why are you so totally closed to it, bro? To at least the possibility.

253. NIKESH         I’m serious. He’s unhinged.

254. XAVI              I can see why me being some unhinged and crazy fraud would make me a much more convenient target to strike out at, but I have to respectfully tell you Nikesh – the change is not a - gonna come - the change has very much come.

255. NIKESH         This is abduction. You’ve abducted me. You see that don’t you?

256. XAVI              It’s absolutely nothing of the sort.

257. NIKESH         An ambush then.

258. HAROUN       You’re making way more of this than you need to.

259. NIKESH         Oh, I am, am I?

260. HAROUN       Yes you are, bro.

261. NIKESH         OK. OK. You and your mate here win, Haroun. Have it your way. Glad that you and Xavi, and all these hummy dummy people, have built your very own mud and rag structure to read whatever paranoid end of the world conspiracy theory you like into. But this is as far as it goes for me: mission accomplished. Thank you.

NIKESH TRIES TO WALK AWAY AND IS BLOCKED BY XAVI

262. XAVI              He transformed didn’t he? The man your fiancée attended to. The man who jumped.

263. NIKESH         Oh my God you just don’t (-give up do you?)

264. XAVI              The taxi driver testified that the jumper seemed to be experiencing a change to his physiognomy, but I think your fiancée witnessed something even more disturbing and profound.

265. NIKESH         My fiancée was trying to save his life.

266. XAVI              Then what did she say to the security services when they arrived at the scene? We have the footage, Nikesh.

And there they are. Clear as day. Talking to your Nina.

267. NIKESH         There are no security services involved.

268. HAROUN       But you recognise it don’t you?  You recognise this shape. You’ve seen it before, haven’t you?

269. NIKESH         And who’s to say you and Xavi didn’t build this horrible thing last night?

270. XAVI              Because we know we didn’t.

271. NIKESH         Then you know who did?

272. XAVI              They that are no longer lonely.

273. NIKESH         They that are Lonely No More?

274. XAVI              Precisely so.

275. NIKESH         That’s it, Haroun. That’s fucking it. I’m going.

276. XAVI              Where?

277. NIKESH         Home.

SFX                      NIKESH STRIDES OFF UP THE ROAD

278. XAVI              (CALLING AFTER HIM) You know the final transformation has already commenced. Complete assimilation.  I know you know that, Nikesh. And what’s more I think your friend Tucker Lane King knows that too.

SFX                      A POLICE CAR WAILS UP

279. POLICEMAN  (off) What the hell’s going on here?

280. XAVI              Good evening officer.

281. POLICEMAN  (off) You speak for these people, sir?

282. XAVI              I do, officer.

283. POLICEMAN  (off) Then perhaps you’d instruct them all to disperse. This area’s taped off until further notice.

284. XAVI              I’m sorry to say we’re not going anywhere.

285. POLICEMAN  Excuse me?

286. XAVI              We have every right to be here.

287. POLICEMAN  And I just told you this is now a restricted area.

SFX                      SOMEONE THROWS A ROCK AT THE POLICEMAN.

288. POLICEMAN  Who threw that rock?

289. XAVI              What rock?

290. POLICEMAN  All right, that’s it. You’re under arrest.

291. NIKESH         (OFF) Haroun!  Haroun!

SFX                      MORE STONES ARE THROWN. THE POLICE DUCK FOR COVER

292. POLICEMAN  (on radio) Back up required urgently. Over. Urgent back up required we have an ongoing incident.

SCENE 12             EXT REGENTS PARK

SFX                      NINA AND URQUHART ARE AS BEFORE. NINA LOOKS AT AN IMAGE ON URQHART’S I-PAD

293. NINA             I see it, Professor but I’m not sure I know what I’m looking at.

294. URQHART     It appeared suddenly on the South Downs last night. The image is a bit blurry I grant you. But it’s most definitely a man-made structure. And it’s very far from being the only one. Look again at its shape.

295. NINA             Wow.

296. URQHART     Indeed, wow. Wow, indeed.

297. NINA             Karyotype 30.

298. URQHART     Precisely the same shape as the rogue chromosome sequence we discovered during the autopsy of Mr. Lakeland and those other poor unfortunates who leapt to their deaths.

299. NINA             But how can that possibly be?

300. URQHART     I don’t know. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Maybe it’s just a thing like this Lonely No More phenomenon is just a thing. Who knows? But the structures are not why I invited you to join me.

301. NINA             If this is about me returning with you to the Hazel Hill facility I can’t – I just can’t - vanish for another four days.

302. URQHART     Oh, they’re not asking you to. But I’m grateful.  I’m extremely grateful you reached out to me when you did.

303. NINA             Because you’re the man.  And I’d never seen anything quite like it, professor. The autopsy.

304. URQHART     And neither have I. It is without doubt the most astonishing discovery I’ve made in over forty years in the field.  But what we have to do now is respect the enormous sensitivity and secrecy of what we’ve both witnessed since arriving at Hazel Hill.

305. NINA             Believe me, Professor Urqhart I appreciate how important it is to avoid any kind of mass hysteria. Inert DNA suddenly activating is not exactly one for the faint of heart.

306. URQHART     Even if quite astounding.

307. NINA             That’s one word for it.

SFX                      URQHART OFFERS HER A DRINK FROM HIS FLASK

308. URQHART     Whisky? Just from the flask I’m afraid.

309. NINA             Best not but thank you.

310. URQHART     And, now, just as suddenly – some good news.

311. NINA              Which is?

312. URQHART     The protein which appears to have stimulated the K30 chromosome has not only been identified but isolated.

313. NINA             You’re kidding?

314. URQHART     No. Laboratory testing suggests we have the potential to completely deactivate it.

315. NINA             Forever?

316. URQHART     Nothing is ever forever, Nina but certainly for the foreseeable.

317. NINA             That’s great news. That’s amazing. Given your grave concerns at Hazel Hill.

318. URQHART     The W.H.O have approved our findings

319. NINA             Wow! They don’t waste any time, do they?

320. URQHART     They act quickly when they have to.  And a simple supplement is about to go into mass production. If we act with sufficient urgency and efficiency K30 will be safely returned to its ancient slumbers. And you, Nina have helped us to achieve it.

321. NINA             Everything back to normal then?

322. URQHART     Like it never happened.  Which, for everyone on the planet’s sake, I can’t stress enough, it didn’t.

323. NINA             No.

                            URQHART RISES

324. URQHART     It was a genuine pleasure Doctor Markovic. And I thank you again.

325. NINA             Likewise Professor Urqhart.

326. URQHART     And good luck for next week.

327. NINA             Sorry?

328. URQHART     Your wedding.

329. NINA             Huh? Oh. Yes.

330. URQHART     He’s a lucky chap your chap. Yes he is. A very lucky chap indeed.

SFX                      URQHART WALKS AWAY WHISTLING I’M GETTING MARRIED IN THE MORNING

SCENE 13  INT. NINA AND NIKESH’ FLAT

331. NIKESH         A parcel? Nina went to pick up a parcel?

332. LIV                And she asked me to wait here until you returned from the airport.

333. NIKESH         Did she say what the parcel was?

334. FREDDY        Any chance we could veer back to Tucker Lane King?

335. LIV                Sorry, Freddy.

336. FREDDY        So – thoughts Nikesh. Impressions. Because nothing – literally nothing - Tucker is saying about the Lonely No More campaign is making any kind of sense to me.

337. NIKESH         Because it’s nonsensical and insane. Tucker wants to rebrand every single one of his wide portfolio of products as a Lonely No More product. Lonely No More computers. Lonely No More electric cars. Lonely No More everything.

338. LIV                Which upends literally all our work.

339. NIKESH         Zane Benedetto and Tucker Lane King both consider Lonely No More to be a prophecy.

340. LIV                Of what?

341. NIKESH         Of the rise of the Nephilim.

342. FREDDY        Of the who now?

343. NIKESH         The men of renown.  Divine beings said to have mated with human women thousands and thousands of years ago, and created a race of angels.

344. FREDDY        You’re fucking shitting me.

345. LIV                Exactly.

346. NIKESH         If only I were, Freddy.  Now, I don’t know any more than you do as to what the phenomenon of Lonely No More is, or what it means, or why it’s taken hold the way it has. But what I do know is that what Tucker Lane King wants is not only crackers…

347. LIV                Crackers?

348. NIKESH         It’s also literally impossible for us to achieve.

349. FREDDY        I sent you to Tokyo to firm up the campaign strategy not blow the bloody doors off.

350. NIKESH         But this is not the campaign strategy we agreed.

351. LIV                Nikesh is right, Freddy. And you know it.

352. FREDDY        So what do you say we do now?

353. NIKESH         Honestly?

354. FREDDY        Am I supposed to answer that.

355. NIKESH         I say we dump the whole campaign and move on.

356. FREDDY        Dump Tucker Lane King?

357. NIKESH         TLK’S dead set on transforming their business empire into a global laughing stock – and us with it.

358. FREDDY        Dumping the Lonely No More account would be pretty much the same as dumping Grainger Grant and Colby.

359. NIKESH         We go ahead with this, I believe we’re ruined anyway.

SCENE 14             INT. THE APARTMENT. LATER

NIKESH AND NINA ARE IN BED

360. NINA             And after that they left?

361. NIKESH         After that they left. Freddy and Liv.

362. NINA             Freddy sounded pretty pissed off.

363. NIKESH         Never easy to hear unwelcome news. God, it’s good to be back in bed with you.

364. NINA             Hallelujah to that.

365. NIKESH         What a week.

366. NINA             With a happy ending I think

367. NIKESH         You think?.

368. NINA             I had some good news, some very good news today from work.

369. NIKESH         Don’t tell me your patients are going back to being sick again?

370. NINA             They will be soon.

371. NIKESH         Hurray?

372. NINA             Speaking of news – did you see it? The riot on the Great West Road around that thing they built.

SFX                      NIKESH FLASHBACK SUDDEN BURST OF THE RIOT AND SIRENS

373. NIKESH         Certain people take protecting these strange structures very very seriously. My brother amongst them.

374. NINA             Haroun was there?

375. NIKESH         Along with formula one racing driver and all round conspiracy theorist Xavi Anderson who kindly informed me that those who built those structures were Lonely No More.

376. NINA             (QUIET) Right. Right.

377. NIKESH         Kiss me please.

                            THEY KISS

378. NINA             That’s very nice.

379. NIKESH         So am I still going to be kept under surveillance

380. NINA             I shouldn’t think so.

381. NIKESH         Because whatever the mysterious threat level was?

382. NINA             Is now a lot less than it was.

383. NIKESH         As in gone?

384. NINA             As in very much under control.

385. NIKESH         So there’s no threat whatever the threat actually was?

386. NINA             All very much under control.

387. NIKESH         For real?

388. NINA             For real. Now, where’s my cuddle?

                            THEY BOTH SNUGGLE DOWN

389. NIKESH         You think we’re going to have everything ready for next week.

390. NINA             Spoke to the wedding organiser this morning. The hotel’s ironed out the issues with the caterers and your mate Sam Butler’s confirmed he’ll DJ.

391. NIKESH         There’s the boy.

392. NINA             But I don’t want him playing records nobody knows and can’t dance to.

393. NIKESH         He knows that.

394. NINA             Hm.

395. NIKESH         He does.

396. NINA             Liv said she’d keep an eye on your dad.

397. NIKESH         Who I’m going to meet at the airport next week.

398. NINA             Which is just extraordinary.

399. NIKESH         Which is just extraordinary.

SFX                      NIKESH GETS A NEWS IDENTIFICATION ON HIS PHONE AND HE REACHES OVER FOR IT

400. NINA             That the news?

401. NIKESH         Er, yeh, it is. Wait. Oh my God.

402. NINA             What?

403. NIKESH         Look.

                            NIKESH SHOWS NINA THE PHONE

404. NINA             That’s gotta be a mistake.

405. NIKESH         Read it.  Says the space station crew just detonated the air lock and walked right out into space. No suits. No helmets.

406. NINA             All seven of them?

407. NIKESH         All seven of them. And the last message they sent back to earth was –

408. NINA             Lonely No More.

409. NIKESH         Lonely No More.
